PREZODE Statement read the High-Level Meeting on Pandemic Prevention, Preparedness and Response

PREZODE delivered a statement at the Panel “Multilateralism for equitable access – the world together for pandemic prevention, preparedness and response” during the HLM PPPR of the UNGA on September 25, 2026.

.

Chair, Excellencies, distinguished Colleagues,

PREZODE welcomes this renewed Political Declaration and its commitment to prevention, preparedness and response through strengthened multilateral cooperation, solidarity and a One Health approach.

This comes at a critical moment. The drivers of pandemic emergence continue to intensify, while our capacity to prevent risks at their source remains underutilized, and we have seen recent examples with hantavirus outbreak and the ongoing Ebola epidemic in DRC. The challenge is no longer defining the vision, but collectively delivering its implementation.

Multilateralism must enable countries not only to prepare or respond together to crises, but to work together continuously to prevent them from happening, to reduce risk at source. This requires sustained cooperation across human, animal and environment, connected with climate, biodiversity and sustainable development.

The renewed Declaration takes an important step forward to push prevention onto the agenda and no longer focus only on preparedness and response alone. These commitments must now translate into locally adapted One Health actions, combining community engagement, science-policy dialogue and risk reduction at source.

Through its network spanning more than 90 countries, PREZODE demonstrates that bringing together scientific evidence, local knowledge and public policy makes prevention operational, low-cost, sustainable while generating co-benefits for health, food security, biodiversity and climate resilience.

PREZODE encourages Member States to adopt the Declaration as soon as possible and stands ready to support Member States in translating these commitments into action and making prevention a cornerstone of global health security and sustainable development.

Thank you.
