Research Director, Veterinary Epidemiologist
Eric Etter is a veterinary epidemiologist employed by Cirad, based in Guadeloupe, where he also serves as Secretary of CaribVET, the Caribbean network for animal health and veterinary public health. He holds an appointment as Extraordinary Professor in the Department of Production Animal Studies at the Faculty of Veterinary Sciences, University of Pretoria (South Africa), where he was based for six years (2014–2020). An internationally recognised expert in risk analysis, he has published more than 80 articles in international peer-reviewed journals and supervised or co-supervised 6 PhD and 15 MSc students. His research addresses vector-borne diseases (bluetongue, West Nile, AHS, heartwater), zoonoses (bovine TB, brucellosis, RVF, HPAI) and diseases with major economic consequences (ASF, FMD), as well as antimicrobial resistance. His work integrates social science approaches to understand surveillance acceptability and optimise disease control, reflecting the One Health ethos.
