Ahidjo Ayouba - Central Africa

Research Director & Deputy Director of TransVIHMI, IRD

Dr. Ahidjo Ayouba is Director of Research at the French Research Institute for Sustainable Development (IRD) and Deputy Director of the TransVIHMI research department in Montpellier. His research focuses on animal reservoirs of viruses with zoonotic potential and their emergence at the human/wildlife interface. His areas of interest include HIV and its simian precursors, filoviruses, arboviruses and coronaviruses, with a particular focus on their circulation in West and Central Africa. He has contributed to the development of numerous diagnostic tools and their transfer to Global South countries, as well as to the training of many students. Within TransVIHMI, he leads a team of 41 members in Montpellier and serves as scientific and technical co-coordinator of CREMER in Yaoundé, Cameroon. He is a member of several expert groups, both nationally and internationally.
