Emphasizing One Health Policy and Governance at the 2025 World Health Summit

On October 13, PREZODE, along with its member and partner FOUR PAWS, is co-organizing two events—a Global Health Lab and a side event —during the 2025 World Health Summit in Berlin.


One Health Policy to Practice: Charting the Future of Disease Prevention, National Implementation, Best Practices, and Policy Recommendations

Side event – Monday, October 13, 2025 – 02:00-03:30 pm CEST – Room: Side Meeting IV – Intercontinental Berlin

This roundtable discussion will bring together government representatives from different regions of the world to share learnings, best practices, and scalable examples in One Health strategy development and implementation. The event aims to move beyond conceptual discussions, with experience sharing, and lessons learned from countries implementing One Health strategies.

Among the expected outcomes: A set of concrete recommendations for effective One Health implementation at national and regional levels; Identification of scalable models and best practices for cross-sectoral collaboration; Strengthened international collaboration and multilateral networks among One Health stakeholders.

Chaired by Wanda Markotter, OHHLEP, University of Pretoria, the panel will bring together high-level country representatives: Matthias Sauer, Germany; Outi Kuivasniemi, Finland; Umair Khalid, Pakistan, Clarisse Paolini, France, along with high-level experts, including Andrea Winkler, Lancet One Health Commission, and Magda Robalo, Institute for Global Health and Development, and high-level representatives of International Organizations.

Beyond Symptom Control: One Health and the Transformation of Global Health Governance”

Global Health Lab session – Monday, October 13, 2025 – 11:00-12:30 am CEST 

Room Hub 2 – Intercontinental Berlin

This session is co-hosted with the German Ministry of Health and the German Interministerial Network for One Health. It aims to demonstrate the importance and benefits of prevention strategies addressing the root causes of health threats, including global pandemics at the human-animal-environment interface, challenges and opportunities of One Health operationalisation, the evolution of One Health governance and the growing importance and benefits of multi-sectoral collaboration. It will highlight how indispensable improving animal welfare and environmental protection via the One Health approach (as defined by the One Health High-level Expert Panel) are to protecting human health.

Chaired by former Prime Minister of New Zealand and a member of The Elders Rt. Hon. Helen Clark, and Prof. Wanda Markotter, OHHLEP Co-Chair and Director, Centre for Viral Zoonoses, Faculty of Health, University of Pretoria, the session will gather Ministers and official representatives: PStS Dr. Georg Kippels, Parliamentary State Secretary, Federal Ministry of Health, Germany; Björn Kümmel, Deputy Head of Unit Global Health, Federal Ministry of Health, Germany; Hanan Mohamed Al Kuwari, Advisor to the Prime Minister for Public Health Affairs & Vice-chair Intergovernmental Working Group on the WHO Pandemic Agreement, State of Qatar H.E.
