PREACTS (PREZODE in action in the global South) is the first international operational programme conducted under PREZODE’s umbrella.
PREACTS focuses on preventing outbreaks and curbing the spread of zoonotic diseases at the human-animal-environment interface. It employs nature-based solutions and context-specific approaches that address social and economic impacts. Ultimately, the goal is to enhance the resilience of socio-ecosystems against the emergence of zoonotic diseases while strengthening surveillance systems at the animal-human interface.
This programme, funded by the Agence Française de Développement (AFD) with a budget of 30 million euros, consists of three projects: AFRICAM (2023-2026), ASAMCO (2024-2028), and ASEACA (2025-2029, in a co-design process). These projects are established in selected countries (among PREZODE country members) and regions identified as epidemic hotspots, providing a diverse landscape for PREACTS’ One Health approach.

AfriCam
Launched in 2023, the AfriCam project is currently being implemented in Cambodia, Cameroon, Guinea, Madagascar, and Senegal, and has entered a crucial phase of development. In 2024, on-the-ground activities were initiated in each country, with a strong focus on cross-sector partnerships and frequent coordination meetings to facilitate knowledge sharing and synergy among all participants. Progress to date includes training (training workshops for PhD and Master students), significant data collection (sampling of wildlife and domestic animals, epidemiological surveys, and knowledge, attitude, and practices surveys), co-designed workshops on integrated surveillance systems, a deeper understanding and integration of gender perspectives, and the preliminary implementation of prevention mechanisms. Local and national governments are actively engaged to ensure the sustainability and long-term impact of AfriCam’s activities. The project plans to expand these activities, enhance regional synergies beyond individual countries, and boost global collaboration through partnerships with ASAMCO.

ASAMCO
The PREACTS-ASAMCO project officially started on 28 August 2024. Characterized by its regional approach, ASAMCO covers Central America (Mexico, Costa Rica, and Haiti), Africa (Democratic Republic of Congo), and Asia (Laos and Thailand). Project activities have been officially launched in each region. The Central America region kick-off meeting occurred on October 14, 2024 in Mérida, Mexico. For Asia, the meeting took place in Bangkok, Thailand, on December 12-13. The launch in DRC is planned for 2025.
ASEACA
ASEACA, the third project, is currently under a co-designing process. It will support at both regional and national level: the Southern and East African region (Tanzania, Mozambique and Zimbabwe); the South-East Asian region (Philippines and Vietnam) and the Caribbean region to implement and/or strengthen national strategies and policies at the interface of human, animal and environmental health.
