As the initial term of the Steering Committee members is coming to an end, we are looking for new members or new candidacies of current SC members to join the Initiative’s governing body. Here are the terms of reference.
The Steering Committee (SC) is a central body of the PREZODE initiative that proposes the initiative’s strategy, presents deliverables to the General Assembly, and oversees the implementation of the initiative.
The SC is composed of 5 colleges. The current call is open for the following three colleges:
- The Science College: 5 seats to be filled. Candidates to this College must be internationally acknowledged experts, thus must provide a CV and a list of peer-reviewed publications. They apply as individuals. A recommendation letter from a PREZODE member, other than the organization with which they work regularly, would be an asset.
- The Regional College: 5 seats to be filled, (one for each of the 5 regions of the world: Africa, Americas, Asia, Europe, and Oceania. Candidates for this College must belong to an institution or organization member of PREZODE, which has signed the declaration of intent before November 21, 2024. They must justify their link to their region as well as their expertise in regional health issues.
- The Civil Society College: 3 seats to be filled, allocated to representatives of Civil Society organizations (NGOs, community groups, etc.). Candidates for the Civil Society College must belong to an institution or organization member of PREZODE, which has signed the declaration of intent before November 21, 2024, and must justify their expertise in health issues.
Additionally, the SC will include representatives of One Health International Organizations college (1 representative per signatory organization, with a limit of 4 representatives in total) and 1 representative nominated by the Donors Committee that will be set up in the coming months.
Functions of the SC
The SC elaborates and submits to the GA the strategic orientations for the initiative. In particular, it:
- Submits annual work plans and budgets for the initiative.
- Submits other strategic documents, including revisions of the Terms of Reference for the governance of the initiative.
- Prepares and proposes revisions of the Strategic Agenda of the initiative.
The SC is also the body making decisions on several actions related to the initiative. In particular, it:
- Decides on the endorsement (under PREZODE label) by PREZODE of projects, programs and networks based on the evaluation by an ad-hoc working group.
- Decides on working groups or task forces on specific topics.
- Guides and reviews their activities, engages and communicates with potential partners and stakeholders.
The SC also guides the Secretariat and reviews its activities.
Requirements
- Adhere to PREZODE’s values and be involved in the One Health and prove their expertise and degrees in domains relevant to PREZODE’s mission.
- Understand that the Steering Committee is tasked with broad activities, science being one among them.
- Understand that participation in Steering Committee activities and meetings is required, and remain engaged with PREZODE throughout their term. If they are inconsistent and irregular in their participation in PREZODE activities and SC meetings, their mandate will be terminated before the end of their term. They will not be permitted to apply for a new SC mandate.
Their participation and involvement in the Pillar Working groups will be highly appreciated.
SC members will not receive financial compensation for their work, but they will occupy strategic positions in the high-level PREZODE international network. SC members are encouraged to attend and participate in relevant local and international events on behalf of PREZODE, provided that it is approved by a majority of SC members. In this regard, PREZODE will cover expenses up to a maximum limit.
Duties
Candidates must understand that the SC is tasked with broad activities, science being one among them.
Participation and involvement of SC members in one of the five Pillar Working groups of PREZODE, according to their expertise and interest, is highly recommended, especially for members of the Scientific College.
SC meetings occur every two months and last two hours. Participation in SC activities and meetings is required. Members must commit to the PREZODE Initiative and remain engaged throughout their term. If they are inconsistent and irregular in their participation in PREZODE activities and SC meetings, their mandate will be terminated before the end of their term. These members will not be permitted to apply for a new SC mandate.
Note that, when relevant, external experts can join specific SC meetings.

SC members are encouraged to attend and participate in relevant local and international events on behalf of PREZODE, provided that a majority of SC members approves it. In this regard, PREZODE will cover expenses up to a maximum limit.
Applications
To apply, please fill out this form to provide the needed information and submit the following documents in English:
- A curriculum vitae (2 pages max) and a list of publications, when relevant, and mandatory for applicants to the Scientific College.
- A cover letter, indicating your motivations and how you satisfy the selection criteria (1,200 words maximum).
- For the Regions and the Civil Society College applicants, a recommendation letter from your institution is required. For individuals applying to the Science college, a recommendation letter would be an asset.

Process
- This call is open to candidates for each of the 3 colleges to be elected. One can apply to only one college. The call for applications will remain open for 6 weeks.
- The Secretariat screens the applications to select the eligible ones according to the Terms of Reference.
- The candidacies are published on a dedicated online platform for 3 weeks, including the week of the vote.
- The vote will be open for 7 days.
- All members will vote for the Scientific College and the College of Civil Society. The members of each of the 5 Regions will vote for the candidates of their Region.
- For the Scientific College, the five candidates getting the most votes are elected.
- For the Regions’ College and each Region, the candidate getting the most votes is elected.
- For the Civil Society College, the 3 candidates getting the most votes are elected.
Background
PREZODE’s governance encompasses several bodies. The General Assembly (GA) and the Steering Committee (SC) are the ones that provide the Initiative’s strategy.
All members are eligible to vote in both the Science and Civil Society colleges’ elections.
For the Regional college elections, members are only eligible to vote in their registered region.
To validate the elections, a quorum of 50% of the voters’ list must be reached for each college. Please make sure your representative voter will cast your organization’s vote.
A balance between regions, genders, and fields of expertise -human, animal, and environmental health- will be considered.
