As part of PREZODE’s key actions to prevent emerging zoonotic diseases, developing an international platform is a strategic priority. The International Data Working Group (IDWG) was established in September 2024 to serve that purpose.
The members of IDWG bring expertise in data management and analysis through a One Health approach. They represent international organizations, universities, research centres, the private sector, and governments. Initially comprising 25 specialists from around the world, the group has achieved success and continues to grow with an increasing number of experts.. As of 31 March 2025, the IDWG includes 57 active participants who are sharing their knowledge and commitment. To reflect this natural evolution and ongoing expansion, the group recently adopted the name IDWG-e (extended).
An international and interdisciplinary community
IDWG-e has embraced a highly participatory approach that incorporates UX experience techniques and agile methodologies. Through a system of volunteer co-chairs, iterative collaboration, and dynamic working groups, the team is able to make the most of each specialist’s contributions based on their availability and interests. All proposals and developments are shared in plenary meetings to ensure a comprehensive and cohesive vision.
IDWG-e is designed as an open and dynamic space where any interested expert can join the group and contribute according to their availability and expertise. It includes specialists from the five Pillar Working Groups of PREZODE, along with other PREZODE experts who have chosen to actively participate in developing the platform, thereby strengthening an ever expanding collaborative network.
First step for PREZODE’s future data platform
Based on the needs identified between 2021 and 2024 thanks to a collective effort and PREZODE regional and scientific workshops, the group drafted a solid methodology. In February 2025, IDWG-e presented the conceptual framework for PREZODE’s future data platform to the Steering Committee—marking a key milestone in the creation of a global tool for the prevention of emerging zoonotic diseases.
Thanks to the commitment of its members and the support of the international community, IDWG-e will continue to evolve, turning the vision of a global platform into a concrete reality for the benefit of all.
