COP27 – a PREZODE side event

On November 17, 2022, PREZODE hosted an event at COP27. The topic: “Links between climate change and zoonotic diseases emergence: prevention as a global solution through the example of the PREZODE initiative”.

Chaired by Jean-François Soussana, vice-president of INRAE, the roundtable gathered Prisca Mugabe, Deputy Dean, University of Zimbabwe, Franck Berthe, Agriculture Global Practice, the World Bank, Corinne Brunon-Meunier (Deputy Executive Director, IRD) Marisa Peyre (Epidemiologist, Deputy Head Global Health Research Unit, CIRAD), and Benjamin Sultan (Climatologist, Research director, IRD).

The discussions raised awareness of the similarities between drivers of zoonosis emergence and drivers of climate change, the need to reduce the risks through a paradigm shift, co-development of solutions with all stakeholders, and concrete actions, such as communities’ engagement, livestock management, and responses to food security.
