From Vision to Collaboration and Action 27–30 June 2025 in Shenzhen, China.
Dr. Papa Seck,
President of PREZODE General Assembly
Keynote address: PREZODE: A Global Initiative with Regional Roots.
Launched in 2021, PREZODE (Preventing Zoonotic Disease Emergence) has grown into a global alliance of over 260 organizations across 29 countries. Our mission is to co-design and implement interdisciplinary strategies integrating human, animal, and environmental health sectors.
In Africa and Southeast Asia, PREZODE’s regional projects exemplify this mission.
AfriCam Project
In Africa and Cambodia, the AfriCam project operates in Cameroon, Guinea, Madagascar, Senegal, and Cambodia. It strengthens surveillance and early detection systems for zoonotic diseases through participatory approaches involving local communities, researchers, and authorities. By assessing risks, implementing prevention strategies, and fostering cross-sector collaboration, AfriCam aims to build resilient socio-ecosystems.
ASAMCO Project
In Southeast Asia, the ASAMCO project focuses on Laos and Thailand. It aims to reduce the risk of zoonotic pathogen emergence by developing innovative approaches at the socio-ecosystem level, particularly at the wildlife-human interface. ASAMCO brings together national health departments, universities, international organizations, and NGOs to co-design prevention strategies.
OHSEA Project
Complementing ASAMCO, the OHSEA (One Health in Practice in Southeast Asia) project works to strengthen One Health capacities in Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, and Malaysia. It focuses on training, data sharing, and supporting emerging One Health projects, laying the groundwork for a cohesive regional research community.
These regional collaborations demonstrate that by working together, sharing knowledge, building capacity, and aligning strategies; we can create resilient systems capable of preventing future pandemics. PREZODE’s success hinges on its ability to foster networks that transcend disciplines and borders, integrating One Health principles into national policies and programs.
As we continue to strengthen these collaborations, I invite all stakeholders to join us in this endeavor. Together, we can build a healthier, more sustainable future for all.
