Key announcements and commitments were delivered during high-level sessions and side meetings, sustaining its activities and programmes.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Held in Lyon on April 6-7, 2026, the One Health Summit brought together over 2,000 participants, including official representatives from 38 countries, 25 international and regional organizations, and 12 development banks, companies, and philanthropic actors. PREZODE seized the moment to present its recent activities, with a detailed<a href=\"https:\/\/prezode-initiative.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/PREZODE_activity_Report-2026.pdf\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/prezode-initiative.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/PREZODE_activity_Report-2026.pdf\"> <strong>activity report<\/strong><\/a><strong>, <\/strong>a first <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/prezode-initiative.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/POLICY_BRIEF_PREZODE_AV-2026.pdf\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/prezode-initiative.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/POLICY_BRIEF_PREZODE_AV-2026.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">policy brief,<\/a> <\/strong>and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/channel\/UC2cy4ha438p-xlXNpv6HLxQ\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/channel\/UC2cy4ha438p-xlXNpv6HLxQ\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">new videos<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>President Emmanuel Macron confirmed the international expansion of the Initiative and France\u2019s long-term commitment. <\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>The World Bank\u2019s Vice President announced a collaboration with PREZODE<\/strong>, especially through collaboration on a regional health programme in West and Central Africa. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>The Islamic Development Bank also declared its engagement<\/strong> -projects within PREZODE member countries are under discussion. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The Director General of the <strong>World Organisation for Animal Health <\/strong>(WOAH) officially <strong>launched a joint working group<\/strong> on science-policy dialogue.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>At the regional and global level, memoranda of understanding were signed with the <strong>Central African Economic and Monetary Community (CEMAC)<\/strong>, the <strong>Pacific Community (SPC)<\/strong>, and the <strong>Global Outbreak Alert and Response Network (GOARN).<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Seven new countries joined the collective effort: <strong>Armenia, C\u00f4te d\u2019Ivoire, Cyprus, Indonesia, Kenya, Libya, <\/strong>and <strong>Mauritania<\/strong>. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Two strategic institutions &#8211; the <strong>Public Health Agency of Canada<\/strong> and <strong>Fiocruz<\/strong> (Agency of the Ministry of Health, Brazil)- confirmed their membership in PREZODE.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Additionally, <\/strong>the Summit also provided an opportunity to unveil further details on <strong>ASEACA<\/strong>&#8216;s project \u2014 the third component of the <strong>PREACTS<\/strong> programme \u2014 covering Southern and Eastern Africa, Southeast Asia, and the Caribbean.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>PREZODE&#8217;s regional networks continue to expand, with <strong>PREZODE One Health in Action in the Pacific (OHANA)<\/strong> translating One Health into concrete actions on the ground.<strong> <\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>ILRI <\/strong>and <strong>CGIAR<\/strong> have offered strengthened support to the PREZODE Secretariat.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Thematic sessions at ministerial level<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Philippe Baptiste<\/strong>, the French minister of Higher Education, Research, and Space, opened the thematic sessions by synthesizing the 48 recommendations that emerged from the scientific symposium held on April 6, in which various experts from PREZODE participated. These recommendations span five core themes: antimicrobial resistance, zoonoses, sustainable food systems, and environmental health \u2014 encompassing pollution and climate change. It specifically advocated for stronger multisectorality and inter- and trans-disciplinarity across governance structures and collaborative practices, to consolidate the institutionalization and operationalization of One Health.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Regarding (re)emerging infectious diseases<em>, <\/em>the key recommendations are as follows:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Place primary prevention at the forefront of public policy<\/strong>, with a focus on high-risk points of contact between humans, animals, and the environment.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Support One Health surveillance and prevention systems<\/strong> through an inclusive science\u2013state\u2013society dialogue.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Adopt a territorial approach<\/strong> to prioritize and guide One Health interventions at the local and regional level.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Develop integrated strategies<\/strong> for the monitoring, prevention, and control of emerging infectious disease outbreaks.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Strengthen land and water use planning and urbanization policies<\/strong> in line with One Health principles.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The Science symposium had been prepared by Dr. Thierry Lefran\u00e7ois, former Interim Secretary General of PREZODE and special advisor on One Health to the president of CIRAD, and Dr. Eric Cardinale, ANSES<\/strong>. Various experts from PREZODE participated in this symposium, namely Drs. <strong>Prisca Mugabe<\/strong>, <strong>Nitish Debnath<\/strong>, and <strong>Magga Robalo<\/strong> (members of our Steering Committee), <strong>Dr. Marisa Peyre <\/strong>(CIRAD, co-founder of PREZODE) and <strong>Dr. Chris Walzer<\/strong> (Wildlife Conservation Society).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Dr. Soawapak Hinjoy<\/strong>, President of PREZODE\u2019s General Assembly, participated in the session <em>&#8220;Zoonotic Reservoirs and Vectors&#8221;. <\/em>She presented PREZODE&#8217;s vision and missions. She introduced her address, reminding that prevention is not incidental to PREZODE \u2014 it is embedded in its very name, as the first word of the acronym that composes it, reflecting the Initiative&#8217;s founding ambition. She offered concrete examples of programmes in Southeast Asia \u2014 including rabies transmission in dumping sites where stray dogs and jackals converge. A One Health approach to preventing spillover requires better management of such sites, illustrating how interconnected human, animal, and environmental health truly is.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Side Events<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Preventing Pandemics at Source: a One Health Approach, from Local to Global<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>On April 6, PREZODE co-hosted a strategic event, bringing together a coalition of international partners \u2014 the Independent Panel for Pandemic Preparedness and Response, FOUR PAWS, rani, AVSF, ILRI, WCS, WOAH, and the World Bank \u2014 the session highlighted the health and economic benefits of investing in primary prevention.
